As much as I love writing blog posts for you full of blogging, search engine optimization, and Pinterest tips, it’s also important to me to build a platform that helps other bloggers/digital business owners grow as well. As a blogger, it’s important to always find new ways to be visible online and to find opportunities to be discovered by new readers.
That’s why I decided to start a recurring item on She Can Blog called Meet the Blogger! I will interview bloggers/digital business owners about their blogs/businesses and experiences. Who are these bloggers/entrepreneurs, what type of blog/business do they run, what drives them, how do they drive traffic to their websites and what else can you learn from them?

Who are you and what type of blog do you have?
Hello, my name is Deborah Young and I am a lifestyle and beauty blogger. Anyone that knows me personally knows I love makeup. I love getting to purchase new makeup products, trying them, and writing a review about them. In addition, I love getting to write about my life.
Recently, I just started writing about TV and movie reviews. I have watched many TV shows and movies that I enjoyed and I thought why not share my thoughts with my readers. Every week my readers get a new quote or thought of the week. Each week on Mondays readers will get a thought-provoking quote or thought. You must read each week to see what it is.
Why did you start blogging?
When I was in high school I started blogging due to me being part of a journalism class. I loved blogging and kept blogging even when I was done with the course. I graduated high school and when I was in my first year in college, I got distracted and just stopped blogging altogether. I feel bad that I stopped blogging.
In the year 2020, I started blogging again. This time I knew I was going to take it seriously and I was going to try to write my best. I actually researched and asked for advice from other bloggers and it helped. I still feel like I am learning every day with blogging but I have enjoyed each stage and journey this blog has taken me.
What makes your blog stand out compared to other blogs in your niche?
I think what makes my blog stand out is that I don’t follow the same blog formula. When I first started blogging everyone kept saying just stay with one niche. Which I think is fine if someone wants to do that but it’s also fine if you don’t want to stick with one niche. Your blog represents you. You have the right to write about whatever you want to write about. I don’t have just one niche, one week you may get a blog post about makeup reviews, while the next week it may be a blog post about a movie review. My blog is never the same.
Which aspects of blogging do you like the most? Which aspects do you dislike?
I personally like getting to express myself and writing down the many thoughts I have and my perspective on life. I have enjoyed getting to connect with the blogging community. I have met some amazing people. In addition this year I did two big blog post collaborations with other bloggers. It was great getting to discuss and work together with everyone. I hope I can collaborate again with others. Some of the things I don’t enjoy right now is marketing my blog. It takes a lot of time to market and promote my blog posts but for me it’s worth it.
I currently use Twitter, Facebook, and Pinterest to promote my blog. In each Facebook group I am a part of, I get daily threads where I get to connect with other bloggers and follow each other on Instagram, etc. In addition, I have gotten amazing blogging advice through many of these Facebook groups. Through Twitter comment threads I have met and gotten to read amazing blogs. I love getting to see different blogs each week. I personally like the daily threads through Facebook and Twitter. It’s an easy way to get to meet other bloggers. I have had much success with each social media platform with attracting blog traffic.
Which strategies do you use to get more eyes on your content?
Currently I implement SEO on my blog to help bring traffic to my blog. In addition, blogging Facebook groups and daily comment Twitter threads have helped drive traffic to my blog. Twitter and Facebook have helped me grow my audience and get more traffic to my blog. SEO has also helped my blog grow and I have been able to draw traffic to my blog from audiences all over the world.
Which SEO tactic has helped you the most to improve the SEO of your website?
Currently, I try to make sure each blog post is about 300 words or more. In addition, I make sure each blog post has inbound links and outbound links. In addition, I try to promote my blogs on social media to try to get more outbound backlinks to my blog. All of these SEO tips have helped bring traffic to my blog. I do make sure that every blog post has basic SEO implemented to help drive traffic to my blog.
Any advice you’d like to pass along to beginning bloggers?
Be okay with making mistakes. You’re not expected to know everything first. Don’t be afraid to ask questions to other bloggers. We here at the blogging community are here to help. I remember when I first started blogging and I just did whatever I wanted. I did not ask for advice and looked up too much information. I look back and think I really did need to ask for help and connect more with the blogging community. Currently, I have been able to connect with many bloggers through Facebook groups and the Twitter blogging community. I am thankful for all the tips and advice and support I have received. Thank you to everyone who has shared, commented, and been such an encouragement to me.
What’s in store for the rest of 2021? What can readers expect if they start following you?
Be ready to be encouraged with thought-provoking weekly quotes or thoughts of the week. Personally, my quote or thought of the week is one of my favorite blog posts that I publish weekly on my blog. Also, be ready for my end of the year blog post, where I will write about what I thought of the year and all the lessons I have learned in the year. I look forward to finishing writing this blog post and sharing it with my readers. I hope people enjoy my blog and check it out.
